A Paris court has found guilty ten people for perpetrating the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the wife of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced charges of circulating untruths regarding her gender and sexual orientation, in addition to posting hurtful comments about the pair's significant age difference.
The court delivered suspended jail terms of a maximum of eight months to the perpetrators. The detailed judgment has not yet been published.
A persistent false narrative claiming that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has spread widely since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France comes as the Macrons initiating a legal action for defamation in the United States against political commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted analogous false narratives about the French president's wife's biological sex.
Their legal filing contends that Owens disregarded all credible evidence disproving her claim in favour of amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has frequently reiterated these claims on her digital program and online platforms, and in March 2024 stated that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her insistence that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her now-husband when she taught at his high school.
The two married in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
