The defendant pleaded guilty to 17 charges at the judicial center on the end of the week

An individual who spiked candy with sedative and gave them to minors at a summer program in the region has admitted sexual crimes against two young males both nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight children and a grown-up became sick at the location in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Yet, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was held in detention ahead of a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She stated his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer camp which he ran.

The defendant played a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had played this game with the boys "for many years", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She said the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his family member had concerns about the activities, justifiably.

"They decided to examine in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor said objects including infant oil, Vaseline and syringes were found, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.

She explained Ruben continued to play the "sweet game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that stage," she continued.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

The prosecutor said the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson notified the law enforcement again.

She stated Ruben then conducted the "candy game" in a space of five youngsters.
